Love & Losses
...and the lessons both teach us
Cousin, Friend, Sister, Dog Lover
As those of you
who read my blog know, my dear cousin Jan - more like a sister (and my
last remaining close relative) passed away on Oct 8th.
Jan loved many things, few as much as she loved her dogs. She loved
helping people (she'd been a nurse for 35 years) she loved travel, the color purple,
and having a good time.
Jan was a crusier - she loved to go on crusies
(to Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean) and often traveled with her mother, the fabulous
Aunt Wanda, and my mom, Mable.
I had kept my teaching engagements to a minimum because I knew I'd have
to be down in West Virginia for an unknown, extended period. Now
that I'm home from the funeral and initial house cleanup, I feel oddly
unsettled, as if I don't know what to do next. I haven't felt entirely myself since I finished the little crochet bag I was making at her side when she passed.
Dec 6, 1953 - Oct 8, 2008
She'll be greatly missed by everyone
who was lucky enough to know her.
|For The Common Good
And Uncommon Entertainment...
I'm SO excited to be doing a booksigning and reading at Garrison Keillor's Common Good Books at 165 Western Ave N. St. Paul, MN on Sunday, Oct 26th at 2:00pm.
It's free, it should be fun, I'll be doing a reading and then signing as many books as you want me to!
If you're in the area, please DO come out and support local authors, local small book sellers, and KNITTING!

East Coast Fun
As long as I'm going to be in Rhode Island I figured I'd try to do a
few classes in the Boston area, so I've arranged to offer 2 classes at
the College Club right in downtown on Nov 6th,
The Universal Mitered Handbag [photo, right] in the afternoon, and
Combination Knitting in the evening. I hope you'll come by, the
classes will be fun, and the location cannot be beat!
And, of course, I'll be at Slater Mill in Pawtucket, RI on Nov 7-9 with Norah Gaughan, talking about knitting and maybe even singing (with enough beer...)
If you're in New England, I hope to see you at one of these engagements!

|My Own Cruise Adventure!
Should I Thank Jan?
while I was feeling at loose ends, wondering whether to try to set up
more teaching engagements or sit tight for a while, I received an offer
to teach on a Caribbean Cruise this Spring!
I'll be co-teaching with Drew Emborsky (the Crochet Dude) on a Craft Cruise with a strong focus on crochet (but lots of knitting, too!)
I learned in September when I took Hannah to Paris, socking away a bit
of money every month into the travel account made the trip seem much
more do-able than I'd imagined (of course, frequent flier miles helped,
So if you budget $150 a month from now to April, you could be heading off on the high seas with me and Drew! Or you could print this out and leave it where your family might glance at it as a subtle hint for the perfect holiday gift...
you book your cruise, please be sure to mention you're interested in
the cruise with Annie Modesitt! The first 15 who sign up and mention
my name will receive a set of all of my books, signed!
