The
piece is worked from the bottom up, felted, then a purchased handle is
sewn on.
Universalizing The Pattern
You can make this bag in any
size you wish, using any yarn you want,
but you will have to do some simple math to determine the size your
mitered diamonds in relation to the bottom of the bag.
|

Sized for EVERYONE
Intermediate

Construction
Unlike the original pattern in Fall 2005 Vogue Knitting, this pattern
allows you to use ANY yarn you want, and make ANY size you want!
The
piece is worked from the center out, divided into 8 equal sections
with markers.
Armholes
are placed by working all stitches in the first and fourth sections of
the circle in waste yarn. The stitch pattern is resumed until
the total diameter of the piece is achieved, then sleeves are worked
later when waste yarn is removed.
This
garment can be worn as a longer jacket with a narrow collar, or as a
short shrug with a wider collar.

Garment Measures:
This pattern is not sized in a traditional, standard way, but you
determine the sizing based on two simple measurements; the cross-front
measurement (from armhole seam to armhole seam in when wearing a fitted
T-shirt, just above the breasts) and the fingertip to fingertip
measurement.
Because of the individualized nature of this pattern, and because any
weight of yarn can be used when making this garment, determining yarn
yardages can be difficult. Use the amounts below as a
guideline, but if this is the first time you are making the garment
purchase extra yarn to be safe.
Yarn Requirements
32 (40, 48)” bust estimates
Amounts are based on worsted weight yarn. You may use any weight yarn
to make this garment, but the yardages will change (more yardage is
required for a thin yarn, less for bulky yarn.)
Yarn A: 1040 (1300, 1560) yds
Yarn B: 400 (500, 600) yds
Yarn C: 280 (350, 420) yds
Notions:
Darning needle, stitch marker, 24" circular needles (2) and dpn's
(optional) in a size that works well with your yarn.

The
body is worked in one piece from the bottom up and separated at the
armholes. Front and back are worked separately from this point on,
shoulders are joined using the 3 needle bindoff.
Sleeves
are
worked
separately and are sewn in place. After the piece is finished, simple
crocheted
edging (consisting of chain stitch and single crochet) is worked around
the bottom and cuffs, crocheted bands are
worked and the collar is crocheted to match the cuffs.

Jacket Pattern
Pattern for all sizes, $5.00
Sized
for S, M, L & XL
Intermediate
Originally
seen in Interweave Knits, this smashing jacket is good
for all seasons, all events! It would look stunning over an evening
gown, or shabby chic paired with jeans and a turtleneck!
Please
note that the sleeve construction in this pattern varies slightly from
the construction in Interweave Knits magazine. I've included my
original instructions for the sleeve construction - when published in
IK they were edited slightly to create a sleeve that is a little
different than the sleeve shown. The construction of the body
of the jacket is the same as appeared in IK.
The
jacket body is worked side to side from center front to center back on
each side, then joined at the center back seam using a three-needle
bind-off technique (explained in full in the instructions)
The
construction is unusual, but not terribly difficult! Short rows are
used to create the fullness at the bottom of the jacket and the unusual
chevron shaping in the sleeves. I've posted an animated
illustration of
the bottom sleeve shaping to give you a taste
of the adventure of knitting this!
